"On My Last Gay Nerve" Sunday, 2996 Blogger Project, The Path to 9/11, Eye Candy
It's Sunday Blogger Friends, do you have something to complain about?? As regular readers know, I have been dedicating Sunday's lately to things that get "On My Last Gay Nerve!!" Now with the political season heating up, I am finding LOT'S of things that are getting me all riled up. As I have said, I am using these rants to get out all of my frustrations on the last week, so I can b-r-e-a-t-h-e a deep breath, and start the new week on Monday with hopefully a better attitude. I welcome all comments, criticisms, emails, and your own personal rants, so you can let this past weeks bad energy out as well.
First I want to talk about something uplifting hopefully. Through another blogger friend, I have been told I should participate in 2,996, a fantastic project that I was not even aware of. 2,996 is a tribute to the victims of 9/11. On September 11, 2006, 2,996 volunteer bloggers will join together for a tribute to the victims of 9/11. Each person will pay tribute to a single victim. We will honor them by remembering their lives, and not by remembering their murderers. I am happy to say that there was so much support for this project, that there is now well over 3,000 blogger friends participating and they are each doubling up on a name. I also checked the site today, and there have been some bloggers that have dropped out, so there is definitely room for other blogger friends to participate. Go there today to volunteer YOUR writing skills to this worthwhile event. I am deeply honored to be a part of this project. I have to admit, that I am also a bit worried on my reception of the family of the Hero to whom I have been assigned. Will they regret, or be resentful having a small blog, written by an out homosexual, talking about their son/brother/friend, etc?? I hope not, and I have not been able to find any real information about my Hero, but thankfully have found a couple tribute sites, where others have given me a glimpse inside his life. Please check out this blog tomorrow, somewhere after 11am Eastern Time it should be up and ready, and I will do my best to honor this fallen Hero!!
Okay, you know what last week got on "My Last Gay Nerve??" The hype and the controversy over the ABC, two-night, "docudrama", titled, "The Path to 9/11". I have posted in previous blog posts that I do NOT think it is too soon to be talking about all that transpired before, during and after 9/11, but for such an important moment in our country's history, it should be handled respectfully AND FACTUALLY!! From all sides, this movie has turned into nothing but political propoganda, originally hoped to bolster the Republicans as we head to the elections, it has created a maelstrom of pundits and opinions by both sides on this DRAMATIZED depiction of the event.
Was it coincidence that the movie was sent as screeners to most of the influential Republican pundits and bloggers, but not to the Democratic ones? That is fairly doubtful. Is it coincidence that the director has been involved in christian politics and is a hugely right leaning? Is it happenstance that the Republican chair of the 9/11 Commission, that this film says it is based on, is the only consultant from that committee and that no Democrats were asked for imput? Where is the line drawn to separate politics from true history on this project?
Dramatization is fine for history where the major players have all passed on, and you are piecing together facts and opinions from a bygone era that cannot speak for itself. However, to put words into the mouths of actual living people, those in Government that the country relied and relies on, and to purposely make up those scenes or "dramatize" them, is unconscienceable!! Of course I am a Democrat and like to see my party in the best light possible, but I would not be complaing at all for a FACTUAL based movie with imput from the parties you are portraying in your film. To say that there was not perhaps more the Clinton Administration could have done in hindsight, is irresponsible at least, if not just naive. Truthfully portray events that happened in both administrations, for a balanced and accurate report on current history is fine and needed, not a dramatization.
Of course the Republicans jumped on this movie, singing it's praises and exhalting it's virtues and "truthiness". How convenient it must be to have short-term memory lapse and forget the stink that they made over the CBS film, "The Reagans", which they succesfully got yanked off the air and regulated to Premium Subscription channel Showtime. You want a fun comparative study?? See HERE, recent comments by ultra conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, and compare it to THIS recap of the Republican mouthpieces just a few short years ago.
I am asking readers of the Gay Guru, to NOT WATCH THIS FILM tonight on ABC. I would like the network to learn from low ratings, why you should not air recent history that is not entirely factual. By now, you have heard from Disney and ABC, and even the director himself that this is just a docudrama, that points were altered or condensed or whatever for considerations, this is not a factual event in totality, and should not be construed as such. Well, my final word on that and this subject, is to look at this ad that is running in another country, along with many others, that are told that this is THE TRUTH about what really happened. Listen and read it in their tagline for the ad. I am not surprised, but am totally angry and saddened by the politicizing of this "made for tv" movie. What is factual and what is not, has been muddied and tarnished by the entire endeavor and there is no way to excise the truth out of it any longer. ABC could have spent the $40 million to make this, on much better projects, or maybe help a few thousand Katrina victims out, who are still living on lanes with debris from a year ago........
Todays Eye Candy is from my favorite location for hot daily eye candy besides here, my blogger friends site at One Third Basketi. In honor of 9/11 tomorrow, I will NOT be posting any eye candy for the day. I hope you will enjoy my piece on my Hero I have been assigned to blog on, and I will be giving my own personal memories of where I was on 9/11 and how I can thank my friend disliking Rosie O'Donnell, that led to me not being even more involved than the average American in 9/11.....Enjoy.....GG

I remember how when Clinton tried to take out terrorists (and he successfully stopped many attacks), the republicans would accuse him of "wagging the dog" and making up distractions to avoid the Lewinsky affair. I wonder (haha) if this mockumentary will how the republicans brought the country to its knees (pun intended) over a blow job?
Am making my way through the 2996 participant list (in no particular order) and happened here. Nice tribute and blog.
I know exactly what you mean when you mention being worried about the reception of the family. Same here! But all the posts I have seen so far are really touching, so I think (hope) we done good.
P.S. Is it OK for a straight gal to dig your eye candy? ;)
