The Day After Blues, Mark Bingham, Melissa Etheridge Rocks My Stuff, In The News, Daily Eye Candy

Good morning Blogger Friends. I hope you all got through yesterday all right. It actually effected me much more than I thought it would and am still a little sad today about it. I think I took the blogger project a bit too much to heart and started reading waaaaaayyyy too many sad stories yesterday. At 3 o'clock at work yesterday, (the weird timing is because thats when all shifts happen to be there at the same time,) we took a moment of silence for observing Patriot's Day. Then this young woman, Kim, sang the Star Spangled Banner, and I mean SANG the song!! She used every bit of our energy in the room and made that song breathe. I wish I had my camera, all of the over 600 heads sticking out of their cubicles to stop and listen. The applause was deafening at the end. My final thought on 9/11 , since I didnt want to "gay it up" yesterday with my tribute to Thomas Peter Knox, (which I got some emotional and FANTASTIC emails from a couple members of his family and friends btw,) is to mention once again Mark Bingham, Hero from flight 93, who was one of the men who subdued the hijackers, and ended up bringing their plane down in an empty field, instead of the middle of Washington DC. He was one of the first faces of a true gay Hero to the nation, even John McCain gave a eulogy for him at his memorial. When is the last day a Republican from Congress honored any gay man like that? I am not sure if you ever noticed it, but Melissa Etheridge's 2004 cd "Lucky", had a tribute to Mark Bingham on it, called "Tuesday Morning". You can download it on ITunes, I did yesterday, and though I couldnt find a video of it, I thought I would share the lyrics with you as my final thought on 9/11 from a gay perspective.........

Melissa Etheridge - Tuesday Morning Lyrics

10:03 on a Tuesday morning
in the fall of an American dream
a man is doing what he knows is right
on flight 93

Loved his mom and he loved his dad
loved his home and he loved his man
but on that bloody Tuesday morning
he died and American

[chorus]

Now you cannot change this
You can't erase this
You can't pretend this is not the truth

Even though he could not marry
Or teach your children in our schools
Because who he wants to love
Is breaking your God's rules

He stood up on a Tuesday Morning
In the terror he was brave
And he made his choice and without a doubt
A hundred lives he must have saved

[chorus]

And the things you might take for granted
Your inalienable rights
Some might choose to deny him
Even though he gave his life

Can you live with yourself in the land of the free
And make him less of a hero than the other three
Well it might begin to change ya
In a field in Pennsylvania

[chorus]

Stand up America
Hear the bell now as it tolls
Wake up America
It's Tuesday Morning
Let's roll

[chorus]

Here's a little Melissa Etheridge, just because I love her........

I LOVED that Tuesday Morning song.

I bought that CD and didn't really care for a lot of the other stuff, but that song gets me every time.
