MEME Mondays, My Embarrassing New Habit, Bike Ride for AIDS, Gay Singer Gay Bashed, Blogger Friends

The weekend's over and we are back to MEME Mondays blogger friends. Hope you all enjoyed a day or two off and got to spend some time with family, friends, at Pride, or just recharging the batteries. To start out my MEME today, I am going to admit to an embarrasing truth about myself. What was once born out of necessity, has turned into something I do on purpose, and with a greater frequency each week. Jeesh, this is hard.....Okay, here goes....I am a supermarket spy. What is a supermarket spy you ask? Well, in my definition, it's a person, or guru, who spies on people shopping at the supermarket.

It all started innocently enough. There are no Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Seattle's Best Coffee, Bohemian Bookstorish gourmet coffee shops near my apartment. It is at least a 15-20 minute drive, and with the price of gas now, plus the price they sell at these coffee places, it's just not economically feasible. Now I's gots to have my coffee in the mornings, and until someone buys me one of those automatic coffee thingies with the timers that make it for you in the morning, (major hints here to friends and aquaintances,) I only make the occasional pot at home and usually go to breakfast or something for my coffee fix. It seems the "or something", one day turned into the little "brasserie", in my giant 24 hour Supermarket. I needed toothpaste, and I thought, "what the heck."

There I sat, innocently drinking some "gourmet dark roast arabica" coffee, with the handy individual hazelnut and cinnamon creamers, that were provided nearby, when I looked out over the expanse of produce, specialty olives, breads, and deli section. Oooooooooh, I felt dirty, watching people thump and squeeze their melons, sneak an olive or two quickly down their mouths, and decide between the deli loaf and the virginia ham to be sliced to order. It was kinda fun to watch these strangers shop. Who was cooking what for dinner, how far can a toddler stretch out of the cart to grab a grape, it was almost mesmerizing. I think I got hooked when I spied the gay couple shopping together one day. You havent really supermarket spied, until you have seen two queens, trying to act str8 and get fight over what goes into the shopping cart as manly as possible. So now I seem to be going more often, and I cannot find a support group for this. Am I addicted to the coffee? Am I hoping for a knockdown drag-out fight over the last 10 ears of corn on the cob? I am not sure, but it feels better now, having admitted my addiction to you blogger friends. If anyone has any suggestions on how to overcome this, please comment for me. =).
In the news, a ride raises record $8 Million to fight AIDS. More than 1,800 bicyclists rolled into West Los Angeles on the weekend - the end of a grueling 585-mile ride from San Francisco. While their personal victories peddling half way down the length of California are nothing to be sneered at the cumulative victory of collecting a record $8 million dollars is seen as downright awesome. Thousands of supporters were on hand as the riders crossed the finish line, including Los Angeles by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Among the riders was a contingent of people living with HIV known as the Positive Pedalers. Over the course of the week-long event, the 1,800 riders -- sometimes outnumbering the populations of the communities they rode through -- were greeted by local residents of eight counties. This year, local AIDS services organizations provided education, testing and outreach as ALC moved through different communities. Supported by the California Office of AIDS, the efforts highlighted HIV/AIDS awareness in those communities and emphasized prevention and the importance of early testing and treatment.

Showing others ignorance, and true gay spirit, singer Kevin Aviance who was attacked in the East Village by a group of youths yelling anti-gay slurs says he hopes the incident sheds more awareness about such attacks. Aviance, whose song "Alive" hit the top of the Billboard dance chart in 2002, still hopes to perform in the Gay Pride parade at the end of the month, said his publicist, Len Evans. The singer underwent surgery for a broken jaw and other injuries. "I'm feeling good. I appreciate everything you guys have done," said Aviance, 38, speaking with difficultly through a wired jaw from his hospital bed at Beth Israel Medical Center on Sunday. The group of young men attacked Aviance at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on a street corner in Manhattan's East Village. Mayor Michael Bloomberg blasted the attack. "Anybody that thinks they can get away with a hate crime is sadly mistaken," Bloomberg said. "It was a disgrace." Four people were arrested on charges of first-degree assault as a hate crime, police said.

This week will be spent getting the website, updated for the June 16th update. I am happy to add another writer to the roster of Gay Guru talent, who will be writing about music, movies and television, very soon, no later than the July 1st update. Bruce is a good friend to the Gay Guru and fellow blog writer, and am looking forward to seeing his writing featured on the website. Also, one of my favorite blog writers, who has been documenting his life as he is about to come out to his parents, went to his first Pride function this weekend in L.A. He took some great pictures, (I took the mayor pic from him,) and is a great guy if you want to check out his blog. Just to forwarn you, his blog is strictly for adults, due to some of his posts pictures and subject matter. Have a great week blogger friends..............GG

Most of these are pretty close, but I wouldnt mind a partner right now...

Great post!
I had heard about that hate crime on a Madonna fansite, she said she was deeply disturbed by the incident. I think they are friends.
Im so nervous about Pride, I am probably going to attend the Twin Cities events at the end of the month in Minneapolis. Pride makes me nervous, maybe its because I havent seen my old friends in a while.
